India lenses – spiritual inspiration
I just love India. I have been there only once, but fell in love immediately. I plan to definitely go back there soon. Since my spiritual path is definitely been inspired by that trip I made years ago, a decent few of my lenses are also about India.
Let’s start down to earth. Many Indian people are vegetarian for reasons similar to mine. Except of course: in India vegetarianism is linked to Brahmanism. Vegetarianism is a supposedly clean way to get sustenance. Since ritual purity plays an important part in Hinduism, it also plays a part in Yoga philosophy.
Sarah lived in India for a longer time than I did and tried out a lot of the Indian buffet of religions and spiritual traditions. The book she wrote about that trip Holy Cow: An Indian Adventure is truthful in it’s depiction of both the country and it’s spiritual heritage. With one BUT: a country like India is just way too complicated to be described in a book. This book is fine as it goes, but the only way to really experience India is to go there…
The most famous religious doctrine to come from India to the West is that of Karma and Reincarnation. I believe in both – and explain all about them. There’s also room for debate.
Two of the most exciting spiritual teachers of the 20th century came from India – and they were both called Krishnamurti.
Last but not least: there’s a sound that comes from India but has vibrations all over the world: OOOOOOM (or Aum, the Sacred Indian Mantra)
