Nearing the end of the month – lensrank & editing
As you all know, the (usually small) income we get from squidoo is based mostly on lensrank. Payment is made based in fact on average lensrank over the month, counted per lens.
To that one can add in individual cases the income off affiliates like All Posters.com or Amazon.
While average lensrank is not as dependent on our editing as daily lensrank is, it still makes sense to look at your list of lenses and do extra promotion and editing on those lenses that are near a tier. That is: if they are near lensrank of 2000 or 10.000. Lenses with lensrank below 2000 are likely to make 10 dollars or more, so it’s worth the time to get your lenses in that tier. Similarly, lenses with average lensrank between 2000 and 10000 are likely to make between one or two dollars.

Am still trying to get my head around all this “tier” business but as next pay day will be the first for a complete month for me AND I have had lenses in top tier plus the next, then it could be interesting.

Although lensrank is now based on an average throughout the month, tweaking this at monthend still helps, or at any time during the month of course.
I’m trying to get more lenses back into the top tier, but it’s getting harder and harder all the time. Got to come up with new ideas constantly.
Wish above all I could find the secret of earnign more from the affiliate programs.

Agreed. There aren’t enough hours in the day to update and edit everything, it’s best to concenrtrate on those within striking distance of a higher tier.

Hm, I guess I haven’t been around Squidoo long enough to earn anything from the tier-based cut (that’s from Adsense revenue, isn’t?), but I’ve made a few bucks from Amazon, which has made me a believer in the potential.
Though I make a living from my own sites and blogs, I’ve been looking for a system that I can suggest to folks just getting started today, and Squidoo has more potential than other sites I’ve peeked at. I like that you can get traffic and make money much faster than when you start your own site; it seems like it has a lot of potential as a way to find a good niche before you launch your own site. And the extra few bucks from Amazon is okay too.

Lindsay: squidoo is a good place for newby’s to start, as long as they don’t expect miracles. One of the good things about it is that if they move on to starting their own blog or website or some other online project – the links from squidoo TO that other project are followed, so they then also have a start on their internetmarketing.
Poddys: The secret to high ranking lenses is to get them a lot of votes and a lot of traffic. And the secret to the first is: make it so that it’s good for lensmasters. The secret to the second: make it good, unique and market it well. The problem is: all of those ingredients need to be there in order for succes to come, and most of the time what we end up making (and yes, I’m guilty too) isn’t all that unique and link-worthy.
