Over 2500 visitors to my squidoo lenses in the last week & other news
It’s time to brag again, I guess. My lenses got a total of 2520 visitors over the last week. This is mainly due to my spiritual quotes lens which is now found by google again. I guess a few extra external links helps a lot. Note that I still haven’t turned on ‘explore related lenses’ on that lens, so that it’s not getting links from other squidoo lenses through that feature. It is of course getting links from my own lenses and one or two others that have featured or lensrolled it. The main change however is the links from the So you want to be a Giant Squid blog and the Captain Squid blog. So I thank them. I should not forget the earlier link from the squidoo review blog by mimi/growwear. It didn’t make a difference back then, but no doubt it helped this lens get back it’s momentum with google.
But there are other changes afoot as well. I’ve been steaming towards getting a 100 lenses.
Right now I have 99, which gives me 4 days to make deadline. I should be able to make it as I generally make about one lens every 2.5 days. Also I think my lenses are all up to scratch. I was nervous about that for the giant squid deadline, but this time I’m more confident.
My latest lenses include the blogging tutorial lens I wrote about yesterday. Glad none of you were offended by that blogpost
I’ve also used squidoo to do a poll for the religious organisation I’m a part of: the Theosophical Society. It stands to make some changes in it’s regulations that would make it less democratic. And since it’s current democratic nature is one of the reasons I love the TS, I have become something of an activist on the subject. I’m using squidoo as the main forum for that activism. The polls have gotten record numbers (for my lenses anyhow) of votes within the last 24 hours. This lens will probably not make me any money at all, but it needed to be made.
Severn Suzuki is an environmental activist I found out about recently. She did a great speech in front of the UN when she was 12 and has been trying to get the world to change its act about the environment ever since. It’s a great lady.
Also donating to charity is my lens filled with lovely nature pictures. It’s based on posters found on allposters.com.
Near Death Experiences is the one main psychological phenomenon that has consistently drawn attention to ‘the spiritual’ over the past 50 years or so. I’ve put together a video showcase of it. Video showcases are an easy way to make a themed lens with little effort.

Wow! That’s a huge number of visitors. I am just happy that I broke the 500 barrier this week. Mind you I have a long way to go before I get to 99 lenses.
I have bookmarked your Blogging tutorial lens to go back to. I have started looking at the videos. I am having to try to make a decision about where to put my main blogging efforts. I have a wordpress blog, where I have posted a diary I kept that is linked to my Bullying at Primary school lens and the diary gets a lot of visits from the lens. But as far as the blog itself is concerned, it is very neglected because I have been posting here and on the SquidU forum, in addition to making lenses. There’s only so many hours in the day!
Maybe I should add the diary as a Page to my Squidtop blog – it would make sense because then more people may look at the blog. I’m thinking aloud again!
I am tempted to turn my Squidtop blog into a full blown AJ Blog that is not just about Squidoo. I have been posting about other stuff on here as well and I think the most interesting blogs on here are those that don’t just say “Check out my lens on how to make a million $$$$$$$$$, in just 24 hours” . Oh decisions, decisions……
Good luck with Lens number 100 and have a great Squiday.

I do think a themed blog is preferable. So your bullying blog should stay up – and probably where it is – but perhaps on something like ‘bullying.wordpress.com’. Get it noticed more by commenting on other lenses about parenting or teaching (and fill in that link when you comment. you’re at least partly there to get noticed). Get links to it from websites about the subject, or blogging directories.
In other words: a blog needs as much promotion as a lens does.
When you can, link to your blog about bullying with the word ‘bullying’ in there. Just like you would your lens (I hope). See how I did that in my blogroll here. It’s called ‘me elsewhere’. You can probably spot the keywords I’m targeting right there in the links.
Giving you people advice might just give me enough material to start a lens on this as well

Yes, Katinka, I hope you will do another lens about blogging. I had a look and couldn’t find a good one that discusses blogs in a basic sense. I made notes as I listened to your videos yesterday and that was helpful but it would be nice to have the basics summed up nicely in a lens!

I just read Squidtop’s ‘About’ page. It was helpful, in a very simple way. A lot of people may have missed it and I would recommend it for someone new to blogging or someone struggling with how to proceed…
Good luck on number 100! We’ll be watching.

Congratulations on the growth. You certainly deserve it, Katinka.
Glad to see my blog is starting to help! My Teach Children Character lens was on Google for awhile, now it’s back to no Google.

Mimi: looking in google for links to my spiritual quotes lens, your blog came up in the top 5 – which probably means google takes it seriously.
