Outing the Dutch…
[I liked the following squidcast so much, I thought I'd share it here as well - a bit elaborated]
Well, I’ve finally made my lens about the Netherlands Dutch. Don’t worry, you can still read it, but Dutch people rarely talk positive about The Netherlands. In fact, some say we’ve made complaining a national sport. We are perhaps the poster child of a very happy (and wealthy) people who show that complaining does not make you unhappy…
Oh – I’ve strayed. What I added to my lens is the following Dirt about the Dutch:
- we curse
- we are impolite
- we are less tolerant by the year
- we have a racist celebration (Sinterklaas – check out the video too) …
- we are one of the richest countries in the world (yes, by Dutch Calvinistic standards that is actually a negative).

Interesting…I just learned a little about the Netherlands, thanks. I had no idea that the Dutch were ‘dirty.’ I won’t make a comparable list of Canadian traits…

I don’t see the Dutch as particularly dirty actually – just a bit too honest. Honest about drugs, honest about s*x and honest about complaints as well. And it just might be one of the reasons why we are one of the richest countries in the world – though the natural gas helps of course.
