Because I'm on Twitter to learn, who follows me does make a difference. If a follower "spams" tweets about the music he's listening to or the drink he's about to get for himself, I will remove him. I'm not interested in those things. I'm interested in hearing about an article, blog post, or Squidoo page that you found relevant to online marketing. I also love hearing about new resources that I can evaluate and pass on to my readers.

Indeed - that works and is probably appreciated 9 times out of 10.

A very reasonable perspective. I think you do a great job of balancing SEO with appealing, well-written content on your lenses and groups. I'm still figuring out Twitter, but so far my favorite thing to do with it is to respond to comments from people looking for skin care solutions. It's a very natural, personal marketing strategy.

choose your followers? well no, that's pretty difficult. The thing with twitter is to not sweat it if you can't keep up with everyone. Just keep up with your replies and post something fun or interesting every once in a while.

Tweetdeck helps me sort tweets by username - you know ' interesting' ' squidoo' ' dutch' and rest :) That helps keep track.

Some people do limit the amount of people they follow, but I personally still follow more than follow me.

But like all social networks what you really need to take in first and foremost is: does this work for me? If not, don't put energy into it.

BTW there are loads of great lenses on twitter with tips to get you started.

I'm a backlink FREAK so guess I need to check the sites where I tend to post! I was aware of this but wasn't really checking into it.

Twitter, ah yes. It doesn't fit my personality at all. For me it's so much oversharing and spam...but...guess I should go back and try again. Now for anyone who is following me (and my non-posts) on Twitter, my distaste has nothing to do with you! Guess I'm just overwhelmed easily.
