Finishing giant squid summer school :)
First assignment: caption contest:
I loved the caption plexo module. I used it in several of the other lenses in this summerschool. This one is perhaps not the best in the set: spiritual pictures.
Second assignment: favorite thing:
We were told to make a lens about the thing we would most miss if it got burned in a fire. I decided to take a light approach with this lens about my favorite pen: a flower pen.
Third assignment: restaurant review
The assignment was to make a lens about our favorite restaurant. International squids like me were encouraged to take that widely – our own kitchen counted as well. So I made a lens about what a vegetarian girl eats.
Fourth assignment: an acknowledgement lens
Our fourth assignment was to make an acknowledgement lens – and then tell the people we were thanking about the lens. I made several. I started out simply thanking everybody who has linked to my spiritual blog from theirs - my spiritual friends (If I missed anybody, please let me know – it’s still being updated).
Then on the wordpress blog for wordpress designers there was a blogpost complaining that we took the work of plugin authors too much for granted. Their work was free and therefor we owed them thanks and if we didn’t donate money, we should at least provide promotion for them. I agreed, so I set up a lens with links to the plugins I use on my blogs. A very handy list I think.
Sometimes a lens you make will fit an assignment, but you would have made it anyhow. That’s the case with this lens acknowledging one of the premier clairvoyants of the last century: Geoffrey Hodson. I’ve put several articles by and about him on my website recently and thought it would be smart to also sell his books, or at least the ones still in print.
Fifth assignment: how to…
The fifth assignment was one of my least favorite ones. We were told to make a how to lens, but not for squidoo. How to lenses generally do very well, so I can see this is a good assignment, but I was not terribly inspired. Anyhow, I ended up making a lens about my nose troubles and how I deal with them.
Sixth assignment: just 5
I did like the sixth assignment. The challenge was to use very few modules: only 5. I wanted to make lenses in this challenge as well as I otherwise would, so I decided to use one module for the guestbook, and one for links to related content (either a link list or a featured lenses module). That left three modules for content. I managed that easily on both with the Harry Potter Calendars and the Thich Nhat Hanh Calendars lenses.
7th assignment: not yet read – review lens
How often do you start a lens about a book when you’ve only just started reading it? I do it fairly regularly, but to do it because you’re being asked to is another matter. That takes having a book ready for reading that you would like to make a lens about. I ended up writing about the study of consciousness. By now it’s no longer about a book I’ve not yet read, as I’ve finished it. I’ve updated the lens accordingly.
8th assignment: favorite entertainment this summer
The last assignment was fun. It got me taking an hour long walk… taking pictures of my favorite walk near my house.
Which makes, in my case, 11 lenses
And that’s just the official summerschool lenses. I also made a summerschool lensography which includes a link plexo for other summerschool lensographies.

Congrats on making it through all of those assignments! That’s a really nice location for your walk. I agree with the person who said you should submit some of your photos on Zazzle. Some would make a nice calendar or perhaps a notecard. (I did a few recently, it’s kind of fun) Photos and artwork also do well on RedGage so that might be a way of getting a few pennies from nice shots as well.
