Competition for squidtop: crabbysbeach!
Drifter just started Crabbysbeach. Like squidtop it’s a platform where squidoo lensmasters can start blogs to promote their lenses. Unlike squidtop, crabbysbeach is, for now ad-free. It’s also better SEO optimized out of the box. If you look at the title tag for this blogpost for instance, you’ll first see the general title of this blog, and only then the title of the post. Since it’s the title of the post that matters most, this is not ideal. On crabbysbeach it’s done well.
I started a blog about calendars and date books on crabbysbeach. It’s one of my niches so I thought I’d take the opportunity to grab that blog. Then Alex (as Drifter is also known) was kind enough to feature my new blog on his blog there too. So that’s one (in fact several) backlinks right there.
I am a bit concerned about the revenue model here, or rather the lack of one. But for now it looks like a great place to start a (niche) blog devoted to squidoo lenses.

I did not realise that CrabbysBeach is better optimized – I just joined to support my SquidPal Alex and it is great to see some of my other SquidPals on there too, including you Katinka.
I decided on a very focussed topic too – well quite foucussed. “Green” means different things to different people I guess!
Good luck with your new blog Katinka.

Alex responded to this post over at my blog at crabbysbeach as follows:
That’s very noble, but I do wonder where you’ll get the energy to fight spam when it comes – and it will come.
[Deleting the comment there as it is not appropriate to that blog]
